Science Matters Program

“In order for standards-based curriculum materials to reach their full potential, teachers must develop the knowledge and skill to use such materials to engage students in appropriate ways.”Phillips, Lappan, and Grant

Step 1 — Design a standards-based curriculum

Aligning your district curriculum is our first priority. Science Matters assists districts in selecting modules to meet both district goals and state science standards. Each research-based module contains enough student resources and equipment for 8–12 weeks of instruction.

Step 2 — Provide module specific training

Our facilitators model activities and strategies necessary for each lesson, including journaling, assessment, and inquiry. Teachers will leave with a clear understanding of the science concepts included in the module.

Step 3 — Replenish supplies

We design the most cost effective system of refurbishing for both rental and direct owned kits. Each year we refurbish and ship more than 1,100 modules for districts in Washington, Fayette, and Greene counties.

Step 4 — Schedule Ongoing Professional Development

We can provide on-site customized professional development to support your teachers and optimize student learning. Our ½ day workshop topics include:
