What Teachers are Saying:

“It has been more than 15 years since I graduated college. Since that time I have drifted away from learning new things, until this course. I am renewed as far as technology is concerned. Thank you.”
- Robotics Teacher

“This course made me think differently about numbers and helped me better understand how children feel as they are learning these concepts for the first time.”

The Science Matters Program – 16 School districts, 1100 classes

Science Matters, launched in 1996, was designed to change the way science is taught and learned. The program provides nationally endorsed curriculum modules, teacher training, classroom follow-up, and kit refurbishment to support K-8 inquiry science. In a program evaluation conducted by the LRDC at the University of Pittsburgh, Science Matters fifth graders paralleled the performance of national and international seventh graders on challenging items. The program, housed at Washington & Jefferson College, has expanded its services to include curriculum audits and alignment, on-site customized training, K-12 Leadership Institutes and additional courses in content and pedagogy.

“Science Matters has re-energized our science program. When teachers are excited about teaching, it transfers to the students.”

- Rita Polansky, Retired Principal, Canon-McMillan School District

“The module created excitement and motivation in my class.  This provided an atmosphere of discussion, observation, and involvement that I do not wish to ever lose.”

- Marie Lowe, Teacher, Avella Area Elementary School
